Why Book a Breastfeeding Consultation with a Midwife IBCLC?

Your Feeding Journey Deserves Expert, Compassionate Support

Why Have a Breastfeeding Consultation with a Midwife IBCLC?

Breastfeeding is a partnership, a journey shared between you and your baby. Like learning any new skill, it can be tricky at the start and most of us encounter a few bumps along the road. Whether it’s figuring out how to get baby to latch comfortably, managing pain during feeds, or worrying about low weight gain, those early challenges are perfectly normal. The good news? You don’t have to muddle through alone – expert support can make all the difference.

As the weeks go by, new questions can crop up – colic, reflux, allergy symptoms, or perhaps concerns about sleep and feeding routines. Later, you may be thinking about introducing solids, returning to work, or even weaning. You might wonder if you can get pregnant while breastfeeding or how to combine breast and bottle feeding. Some families face medical needs and want advice on how breastfeeding fits in, while others may be adopting and hope to induce lactation. With over a decade of experience, I’m here to guide you every step of the way, whatever your circumstances, helping you achieve your goals and making your feeding journey a positive one.

What Can You Expect at a Consultation?

Every family is unique, so each consultation is tailored to you and your baby. Sessions can happen in the comfort of your home or over a video call, typically lasting around 60 to 90 minutes. Here’s what you can expect during our time together:

  • A review of your breastfeeding journey so far, including pregnancy and birth – because different birth interventions can influence feeding in those early days.
  • Practical help with positioning, attaching, and latching – making feeds more comfortable for both of you.
  • An infant suck assessment, including a thorough tongue-tie check.
  • A holistic evaluation of your baby’s overall structure and function – we’ll look at subtle things like head moulding or the effects of assisted birth that might impact feeding.
  • If allergies are a concern, we’ll discuss your family’s history, signs and symptoms, and talk through diet and supplements.
  • Problem-solving together and creating a care plan that supports your next steps.
  • Time to chat about any other worries or questions you might have.

Your feeding journey is precious and deeply personal. You deserve care that goes beyond simply treating an anatomical issue – you deserve someone who invests in your entire feeding relationship. When you choose a Midwife IBCLC, you’re opting for a holistic, safety-first approach that prioritises your long-term success and wellbeing over quick fixes. Let’s work together to make your feeding experience as positive as possible.
